World Championships Canada 2017

Cassandra Morrish gave during the Meeting 2015 in Hartpury a presentation supporting the proposal to hold the 2017 championships in Canada. This included the following key facts:

  • 2017 is the 150th anniversary of the founding of Canada so is an appropriate year for the IYB championships to be held there
  • The championships will be held in Alberta as that is where most of the breeders are
  • They will be in Calgary between 20th to  22th  July 2017 and maybe in Spruce Meadows which is the venue for the Calgary international showjumping championships
  • Calgary is also the venue for the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede (promoted as the greatest outdoor show on Earth), which will be being held at the same time as the IYB championships. It is also very convenient for the Banff National Park and the Canadian Rockies
  • Costings for the event will be available by the end of the summer
  • Flights to Canada are cheaper if booked early and can cost ca 1000 $ in January 2016 compared with 1600 $ in July 2017.
  • Possible suggested ways of funding teams what wish to take part include:
  • Loose jumping competitions
  • Charity auctions
  • Handling fees from charges made by IYBers
  • Shortfalls to be made up personally
